- Brief History of Astronomy Before the Telescope is being offered by the Des Moines Astronomical Society
From dmastronomy.com:
Normally we don’t do classroom programs in July, but this year a special opportunity has arisen for a guest speaker to give a program titled “Brief History of Astronomy Before the Telescope” by Jon Voisey. It covers the progress of astronomy from roughly the Babylonians to Kepler. The focus is on dispelling the myth that nothing happened in astronomy between the time of Ptolemy (2nd century CE) and Copernicus (16th century CE) by looking at how astronomy was pursued and the needs of the societies it could address. Starts at 8:00 p.m. All are welcome. Free admission.
